For Colored Girls

The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated hosted a weeklong of programs that educated and empowered the MSU community. To bring their week to a close they hosted an event entitled “For Colored Girls” which took place in the Multicultural Center located in the union. The event started off with brunch and small talk amongst the ladies who were in attendance. After we all ate, the program began with us reciting the definition of Etiquette not once, not twice, but three times. For you all who do not know what Etiquette means here is the definition; “ETIQUETTE [et-i-ket,-ket] is a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group.”

The program was based off of etiquette and why it is important to have especially as a black woman. “Etiquette is an important part of life and it open doors for you.” said Delta Sigma Theta Member Treasure Roberts. We then went over tips for proper etiquette under the three pillars of Friendship/Relationship, Professionalism, and Academia. The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta then opened the floor up to us and we gave each other tips in regards to those pillars as well as had some girl talk. Although there was no tea being spilled, laughter filled the room and great conversation was made. One thing that I took away from this event and that I feel is important for the readers to know is that there is a time and place for everything rather you’re out & about with friends or in the workplace. If you missed this program be on the lookout for their next event!
